called upon, a Pump, Oil Engine and Engine House with all the necessary pipes for the sufficient supply of Water, to Kowloon East Battery or to provide a Water Supply from some other source to be approved by the General Officer Commanding."
On the 28th of June Mr.Gillies replied that this condition "cannot be entertained as my Directors do not understand why this Company should be called upon to provide a sufficient supply of water to Kowloon East Battery at a cost which they roughly estimate at $20,000." The Secretary of State for the
Colonies telegraphed on the 25th October 1901 that the War
Office agreed to withdraw this condition.
Condition VI. "The Dock Company to erect, construct,
relay or remove all guardhouses, cable huts, beacons, roads, piers, dolphins, cables, Telephone Shelters, Telephone poles, Depression Fange Finding Pillars, Ecuniary Stones and all other
War Department or Naval Works which are interfered with by their Extension Works, and provide and maintain all lights, signals
etc., which may be required in the new position." On the 28th
June the Cock Company assented to this condition.
Condition VII. They will also re-imburse to the
War Department, any sums actually paid cut, or expended in the
dismantling of the Cock Battery.
On the 28th June Vr.Gillies wrote: "This condition we
regret is also inadmissible, as we think that any expenses con-
nected with the dismantling of the Dock Battery should in fair-
ness be included in the premium charged for the land." The
